You lie on the massage table, face up. You are fully clothed, shoes off, legs uncrossed. You may close your eyes, relax, and breathe deeply.
The practitioner places her hands above your body, or will ask permission to lay the hands directly on the body if drawn to a particular area.
You may feel heat, coolness, subtle movements like waves, vibrations, twinges, prickles, tummy gurgles, or forms of emotional release. If you do not feel anything, that is normal too, and does not indicate less effectiveness with treatment. Reiki is absolutely still working. It is advised you let the practitioner know if you are feeling any of the above mentioned sensations.
Healing happens in your physical, emotional, mental or spiritual body – whichever needs it the most. Divine Wisdom will choose where healing goes for your highest good. It is possible for pain on one part of your body to be relieved when the practitioner’s hands are somewhere else. The most important benefit of reiki is what’s happening inside your body – where it’s remembering how to heal itself.
Reiki brings balance to your whole system. When your body is balanced, your own self-healing mechanisms function at their very best. Our busy lifestyle keeps us in a reactive SNS (sympathetic nervous system) mode where the body’s priority is coping (fight or flight), not healing. With Reiki, energy is sent to your body and your system shifts into PNS (parasympathetic nervous system) mode. This is the rest and digest mode where the priority is to recover, to heal, to nourish and to restore itself. Our bodies cannot both cope and heal at the same time.
I also give the intent for the healing to last up to 10 days. I ask for pain to release with ease and grace.
The healing session typically lasts 40 to 50 minutes.
Reiki can also be sent to heal issues in the past or in the future. Reiki can be sent out to different locations without being there in person. Reiki can also be given to babies, pets, animals and plants.
